Ingredients
Scale
- 8 oz Macaroni Pasta: The base of the dish, providing the perfect texture for creamy cheese sauce.
- 2 cups Shredded Cheddar Cheese: For the rich, cheesy flavor that makes this dish irresistibly tasty.
- 1 cup Milk: To create a smooth, creamy sauce that coats every piece of pasta.
- 4 tbsp Butter: Adds richness and enhances the overall flavor of the cheese sauce.
- 2 tbsp Flour: Used to thicken the cheese sauce to the perfect consistency.
- 5–6 drops Green Food Coloring: The key to transforming your mac and cheese into a fun, spooky dish.
- 10–12 Candy Eyes: For a playful, Halloween-inspired touch.
- Salt and Pepper to taste: For seasoning, bringing all the flavors together.
Instructions
- Cook the pasta according to the package instructions. Once cooked, drain and set aside.
- In a large pot, melt butter over medium heat. Once melted, whisk in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes to form a roux. Slowly add the milk while whisking to prevent lumps. Continue to cook, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens.
- Once the sauce has thickened, add the shredded cheddar cheese and stir until fully melted and smooth. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Add a few drops of green food coloring and stir until the color is evenly distributed.
- Pour the cooked pasta into the cheese sauce, stirring to coat all the pasta with the creamy, green sauce.
- Top the dish with candy eyes before serving.
Notes
- For a spicier version, you can add red pepper flakes or chopped jalapeños to the cheese sauce.
- To make it gluten-free, use gluten-free pasta and ensure the flour is replaced with a gluten-free alternative.
- If you prefer a dairy-free option, use plant-based butter, dairy-free milk, and vegan cheese.
- This dish can be prepared ahead of time and stored in the fridge for up to 3 days.
