Description

Monster Mac and Cheese is a fun, spooky twist on the classic mac and cheese. With creamy cheese sauce, vibrant green food coloring, and playful candy eyes, it’s a perfect dish for Halloween or any fun occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz Macaroni Pasta: The base of the dish, providing the perfect texture for creamy cheese sauce.
  • 2 cups Shredded Cheddar Cheese: For the rich, cheesy flavor that makes this dish irresistibly tasty.
  • 1 cup Milk: To create a smooth, creamy sauce that coats every piece of pasta.
  • 4 tbsp Butter: Adds richness and enhances the overall flavor of the cheese sauce.
  • 2 tbsp Flour: Used to thicken the cheese sauce to the perfect consistency.
  • 56 drops Green Food Coloring: The key to transforming your mac and cheese into a fun, spooky dish.
  • 1012 Candy Eyes: For a playful, Halloween-inspired touch.
  • Salt and Pepper to taste: For seasoning, bringing all the flavors together.

Instructions

  1. Cook the pasta according to the package instructions. Once cooked, drain and set aside.
  2. In a large pot, melt butter over medium heat. Once melted, whisk in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes to form a roux. Slowly add the milk while whisking to prevent lumps. Continue to cook, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens.
  3. Once the sauce has thickened, add the shredded cheddar cheese and stir until fully melted and smooth. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Add a few drops of green food coloring and stir until the color is evenly distributed.
  5. Pour the cooked pasta into the cheese sauce, stirring to coat all the pasta with the creamy, green sauce.
  6. Top the dish with candy eyes before serving.

Notes

  • For a spicier version, you can add red pepper flakes or chopped jalapeños to the cheese sauce.
  • To make it gluten-free, use gluten-free pasta and ensure the flour is replaced with a gluten-free alternative.
  • If you prefer a dairy-free option, use plant-based butter, dairy-free milk, and vegan cheese.
  • This dish can be prepared ahead of time and stored in the fridge for up to 3 days.
