- ¾ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- ¾ cup butter
- 2 cups sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 (1-oz) bottle green liquid food coloring
- 1½ tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ⅛ tsp salt
- 1 (8-oz) package cream cheese, softened
- 3 Tbsp butter, softened
- 1½ cups powdered sugar
- ⅛ tsp salt (for frosting)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract (for frosting)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a 9-inch square pan with foil, extending over sides; lightly grease foil.
- Microwave chocolate chips and ¾ cup butter in a large microwave-safe bowl on HIGH for 1½ to 2 minutes, stirring at 30-second intervals until melted and smooth.
- Whisk in 2 cups sugar.
- Add eggs one at a time, whisking just until blended after each addition.
- Gently stir in 1½ cups flour, green food coloring, 1½ tsp baking powder, 1 tsp vanilla extract and ⅛ tsp salt. Pour into prepared pan.
- Bake 44–48 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out with a few moist crumbs. Cool completely on a wire rack (about 2 hours).
- For frosting: Beat 1 (8-oz) package cream cheese and 3 Tbsp softened butter at medium speed until creamy.
- Gradually add 1½ cups powdered sugar and ⅛ tsp salt, beating until blended. Stir in 1 tsp vanilla extract.
- Lift cooled brownies from pan using foil; remove foil. Spread cream cheese frosting over brownies.
- Cut into 16 squares and serve.
Notes
- For best results, use a metal cake pan.
- Use a full bottle of green food coloring for vibrant color.
- Substitute a 4-oz bittersweet chocolate bar for chocolate chips if desired.
- Cut brownies will keep 1–2 days in an airtight container; uncut will keep up to 4 days wrapped in plastic wrap.
- Brownies can be frozen uncut (without frosting) up to 3 months; thaw, frost and cut before serving.
