Description

Festive Crinkle Cookies are vibrant green, soft, and chewy holiday cookies with a hint of peppermint and a charming red candy heart on top. These cookies are perfect for Christmas parties, cookie swaps, and family baking sessions. Easy to prepare and kid-friendly, they bring color, joy, and flavor to any festive occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour: provides structure
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder: helps the cookies rise
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt: enhances overall flavor
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar: adds sweetness and chewy texture
  • 2 large eggs: binds ingredients and enriches texture
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter, softened: adds richness and moisture
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract: gives warm, sweet undertones
  • 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract: delivers a festive mint flavor
  • Few drops green food coloring: creates vibrant holiday color
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for rolling): forms signature crinkle texture
  • Red candy hearts: decorative topping and sweet accent

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In another large bowl, cream the softened butter with granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes.
  4. Beat in the vanilla and peppermint extracts, then add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Add green food coloring and blend until the dough is evenly colored.
  7. Scoop and shape the dough into small balls (about 1 inch wide) and roll each ball in granulated sugar to coat.
  8. Place the dough balls onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them 2 inches apart, and gently flatten each one.
  9. Press a red candy heart into the center of each cookie.
  10. Bake for 8 minutes or until the edges begin to turn golden. Do not overbake.
  11. Cool on the baking sheet for 2 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Chill dough before baking if it’s too soft to handle.
  • Store cookies in an airtight container with a slice of bread to maintain softness.
  • Freeze unbaked dough balls for up to 3 months—thaw, roll in sugar, and bake fresh.
  • Add white chocolate chips or crushed peppermint for extra texture and flavor.
  • Perfect for kids to help decorate with candy hearts or festive sprinkles.
